About Me

Information for finding me via Google

My name is Christopher Finke, and I am a software developer for Mahalo. I live in Chanhassen, MN. I used to live in New Prague, MN. My e-mail address is cfinke@gmail.com. My beautiful wife is Christina Finke (nee Tewes). We both attended Mayer Lutheran High School in Mayer, MN, Concordia University in Seward, NE, and the University of Minnesota, in Minneapolis, MN.

Recent Developments

  • I wrote the following Firefox extensions:
    • Feed Sidebar: Displays the unread items from your Live Bookmarks in the sidebar.
    • URL Fixer: Fixes common misspellings in URLs entered in the address bar (e.g., .con -> .com, .ogr -> .org, etc.)
    • OPML Support: adds OPML import/export functionality to Firefox
    • RSS Ticker: a cable-news type ticker that scrolls your Live BookmarksSlashdotter: an extension that adds features to the Slashdot website.
    • NSFW Detector: makes links categorized as Not Safe For Work less noticeable.
    • GoogleTabs (deprecated): adds a context-menu on Google searches that lets you open all search results in tabs
    • TubeStop: Disables autoplay in YouTube videos.
    • Links Like This: Open multiple links at once.

Updates to any of these extensions will be written about in my blog.

  • I am the current developer of ScribeFire (previously Performancing for Firefox.). Updates to ScribeFire will be written about on the ScribeFire blog.
  • I wrote the following extensions on a contract basis for other organizations:
  • I wrote the Social Traffic Monitor plugin for Wordpress. It monitors your blog for people accessing it from a social news site and then begins logging hits to the pages they're accessing. Charts and graphs and statistics abound.
  • I also wrote the Feed Statistics Wordpress Plugin. More charts and graphs and statistics abound.
  • I designed a theme for Wordpress blogs called Greencode.
  • I am part of a project that started as an assignment in a GUI class at the U of M that has now become quite a contender in the web-based photo gallery market. It's Plogger, and it's open source. I strongly recommend giving it a try.

What are people saying about Chris?

"The template on his blog kicks Safari in the nuts, runs like a coward, and leaves it writhing in pain without help." - Victor Agreda, Jr.

"Christopher Finke is a funny guy." - C.K. Sample III

"You are a king among kings and a god among gods for creating this glorious extension for us. All praise and glory be heaped upon you." - Lord Rahl

It's All Relative

My dad's first book, "Smiling Out Loud," is available at Lulu.com in either paperback or via download. The download is only $2.50, which works out to a little over a penny per page. That'd be cheap at twice the price!

Here is my little brother Jacob's website. He has entirely too much time on his hands.

Full Disclosure

Here are my bookmarks. It's mostly news sites and software reference, but you might find something useful. Note of interest: I export my bookmarks in OPML format using the OPML Support extension mentioned above, and then style the OPML file for the Web with this XSL stylesheet.

I arrived at this "leave a reply" page after searching for "ScribeFire" in the search function. No matter what I do, this blog does not provide anymore information than Firefox for the Add-on called ScribeFire for editing, working with, and posting Blog information to my Blog. The Add-on is in the latest version of Firefox, but sits there uselessly occupying real estate.

I would be most happy if the blurb that accompanies the download and written by the author of this blog could be enhanced with an addon to enlighten me. How do you start the add-on? I have full privileges, all functions loaded, no restrictions and a blog with my name on it that can be edited by two means; use Blogger.com control panel or modify it directly from the page on my domain. I know what I am doing, host a number of domains on my own server, design and post websites for others, and maintain a few others. This little bug is bugging me however. It would be nice if I could refer it to some new members to my blog so they could update their material more easily.

    Ciao
